It’s no secret that the travel and hospitality industries were shaken in 2020 by the COVID-19 Pandemic as travelers stayed home amid lockdowns, resulting in closures and unprecedented furloughs. 2020 saw guest habits and priorities shift, spending more time in the safety of their hotel rooms with an eye out for cleanliness when they were willing to travel.
In an effort to better understand guest behavior during the COVID-19 Pandemic, Enseo analyzed data from our E3® In Room Entertainment system. “Our research provides insight into the time spent on specific TV content categories across all hotel brand segments in all 50 states,” said Vanessa Ogle, Enseo Founder, Chairman and Group CEO. “The pandemic has been particularly challenging for hospitality, and as the industry is adjusting to better meet the needs of guests, this data provides valuable insight for hotelier decisions.”

Data in this paper were collected through Enseo’s E3 In Room Entertainment System. E3® is Enseo’s award-winning in-room entertainment system, which provides comprehensive guest access to hotel information, television services, and streaming over-the-top (OTT) applications, such as Netflix, YouTube and HBO. The data presented in this paper were collected with one-minute resolution and consist of more than 10 million data points in all 50 US states. Additional information on properties outside the US is available but not included in this study.
